ANXIOUS HEART

Well I suppose a re-cap is in order of what’s been going on.

As you may or may not know I, despite my better judgement at the time, did some time on the weekend AVcon spectacular. For the most part it was ok, I was stuck in Willow’s shop, but Shakez and I did manage to get away on Sunday for a quick run around. As conventions go, I’ve seen much better (REMEMBER: I’ve seen a hell of conventions over the years). As Adelaide conventions go, best I’ve seen. It does seem much more professional now the AVcon crew made the move to a proper entertainment center, instead of just some uni rooms. There’s still plenty of room for improvement, vendors stalls were particularly bare Sunday afternoon, but overall I’d say it’s ok.

I’ve also been spending a lot of time with inFAMOUS on my PS3 as of late. My wondrous, silly girl (you don’t buy me games that’s a sure-fire way to never see me out of my room), bought it for me. I love the moral compass of this game. Sure if I go openly bash some bystander in the street I get a form of karma punishment, become more evil. But if they get caught in the cross fire, well that seems to be just dandy. Even though I’m playing though as “good” this play thorough I think I’ve killed over 1000 people. I can’t wait to play though being an asshole to everyone.

The girl and I are also in the process of really saving for a house. Something that I don’t think either of us realise how difficult it is going to be. But we’ll get there.

Ahh the pains that are convention work. Well to be honest it’s not really fair to say that, I do get the easiest job in the town, even if it is a bit boring. Still as happy-go-lucky as I am you wouldn’t want to steal anything on my watch. I would beat you down, with a stick. Then, if I felt the need, I might poop in your mouth for good measure.

AVcon 2009… well lets just say in the 15mins that I got to browse, I’ve seen better.

See I’ve got this thing with this guy that wants to check stuff with me. The only problem is he’s NEVER got any time to do it, always doing something else, so when he finally gets around to your truly it’s usually at 4:30pm on a Friday and by that time there’s that much stuff to go through we are here for a couple of hours. Tell you what, this makes me what to HULK SMASH stuff, in a big way. I can forsee it now, a late Friday, yet again…

I’ve been catching up on a fair bit of reading lately, which isn’t a bad things. Re-reading some books I read over 10 years ago, enjoying them all the same again. I wish I could get me mits on some Enid Blyton books, that would be sweet.

Uggh, how is it people that don’t know each other all decided as a collective they want something done, at the same time on the same day after I’ve been left in piece for so long. I’ll tell you what, I’m getting really tired of fixing computers, laptops and phones. If, by now, you haven’t realised opening that “freeipod.exe” file is going to end in tears then, please, for the love of everything proceed to stab yourself in the face with a sharp object.

What you people have to realise is that I don’t care about your PC related drama, or the fact your internet isn’t working “like it used to”. The age old excuse of “I didn’t do anything, I turned it on and it was like that” doesn’t fly with me. Fuck your computer, and fuck you. I’m over it.

That is of course unless your name is Jessy, you see what’s her’s is mine etc. so under federal law I have to fix it. But saying that she’s the one that has the least amount of problems with her/my laptop.

Well I’m nearing the end of this long drawn out cold/flu. Stupid cold medicine has done NOTHING. Do not waste your moeny people, it’s all a sham.

On the plus side Jessy managed to procure a Tamagotchi Color from Japan for me. These things are rarer than michael jackson merchandise at the moment and expensive to boot. But it’s a matter of tradition, see I’m a bit tama collecter from wat back. My collection spans hundreds of egg shaped minions. Soon the worl will feel there wrath!

But yes, color = cool that’s for sure. They are also back lit which makes them easy to fiddle with in the dark.

Well it’s official. I’m one of those iPhone nerds that stayed up for the launch of the 3.0 OS… but I did kind of cheat a bit. I took a guess on when it would come out and then set my alarm for 4am local time. Luckily enough I’m not as stupid as I thought I would be as I managed to wake up 5 mins after it launched. I installed and was happy until it wouldn’t boot. But being a whole re-write of the OS I wasn’t too upset that I had to restore from a back up. 100+ features for free!

Roughly 10 hours into the new update all I can say is wow. Everything feel snappier, especially the iPod stuff, which I was sure was tacked on the the phone part and not the other way around. The search function is useful, as is copy-pasta and push notification. I’m yet to get an MMS though, I’ll have to test that out tonight to see if it works. Voice recording is useless to me, I wish I could delete it…

Now as re-makes go, when it comes to pretty much anything, I’m not usually a fan. Most of them fail to capture what made the original special, and usually resort to cheap tricks or rely on the name to get people to buy/watch/play them. The Hitcher is by no means an exception to this, as a remake it really is a knock off of the original but in saying that I don’t mean to imply that this isn’t the best movie in history. You have Sean Bean, a most awesome bad guys since the days of Goldeneye, kick ass car and chase scence and fantastic scenic panorama shots that really make this film shine.

I rally love this move that much that I bought the DVD last weekend, and then tonight I thought, fuck it, and went and got the blu-ray for good measure. My god what a difference. Blu-ray really is a generational leap in picture quality, just like DVD was to VHS. If you don’t beleive me you need to see for yourself. Pop a DVD in, even upscale it if you can, then put the Blu-ray version in. The difference smacks you in the face like a freight train. So much clearer, so much more detail, so much BETTER.

Well I finally went ahead and did it. I’m all high definition in my room now. PS3 and Xbox360 and even high(er) definition Wii for all the glory. But as awesome as this is, I wont really get a change to play around with it after work. Oh, I also got suckered into getting the up-up-up model from what I went in to get and ended up with a Sony Bravia 40” Z Series with 200hz Motion flow technology. Hz are the WIN in TV’s… although no one can seem to tell me what Hz actually are on an LCD TV… Hmmm…

Well after an hour or so messing around with various power connections etc. I’ve managed to get the new video card up and running. Who would have though it requires an additional power sauce… what a pain, Stupid PCI-E cards… But in saying that, it has taken medicore average Left 4 Dead at 30fps to awesome 16x Ansiotropic, 4xAA max resolution left for dead to an average of 55fps (before it would chug to 10pfs), even on my aging gaming rig that’s pretty impressive to look at.

I’ve also got to say that I’m awesomly impressed with the Razer Lycosa Keyboard. It looks and feels awesome and glows an awesome blue to boot. BLAU! So long $25 microsfit emdia keyboard, you did server me well for 4 years, it will be a shame to see you go but your old and I never really liked you and your stupid favourite keys too much anyway.

Well now the question comes through to me of which 40” LCD TV I want to buy. I’ve pretty much decided on the Sony “V” Series for all my HD goodness, but they are rather expensive.

At least tonight I get to pick up the new Keybaord and Video vard I’ve been waiting on for 3 weeks. Well it’s not the video card that I’ve been waiting on, I had to settle on a different brad cause the one I wanted wasn’t in.

Don’t know when I’m going to get the chance to install them though. I hear on the rumor vines that Roximas and Bellatron are on there way home as I type this. Now this is all going to be very exciting, I don’t think we have seen the girls in almost a month!

THE TAKEDOWN

Here's the thing about public holidays. When you have them you essentially get an additional 24 hours do what you want, when you want. It might be some games, it might be a drive or it should be to catch up on sleep. So why is it every time we have a public holiday I can't get to bed at a decent hour? It's like I'm wired up on something that's trying to hold on to it's last hours of freedom at any cost... Basically suxors.

Anyway, despite the loss of sleep last night I'm still pretty happy that it's a short week this week. Short work weeks are the best. You get paid quicker, they go fast, no-one really cares that you don't do anything on the Tuesday or Friday. Hence I much prefer short weeks that take out a Monday than a Friday. Everyone rushes on the Thursday for some reason... fucking morons.

Oh and Metroid Prime: Hunters... shit. I hate it. Fucking game gave me cramps with it's control scheme and talk about lack lustre game play. Enemies are soooooo repet-repet-repetive. Fuck you stupid game.

I hope Star Ocean the Last Hope, Mass Effect and Resistance 2 are better... Oh no I didn't... Oh yes I did.
